Abstract

This study uses Reddit discussions about Cities: Skylines to examine how players perceive and learn about urban-planning issues through a city simulation game. Content and sentiment analysis distinguish affective responses to game design from discussions grounded in real-world planning concerns, including transport and service provision. The results show that online game communities provide evidence of both emotional engagement and geographically situated planning knowledge, offering a computational approach to studying public perceptions of urban systems.
