Research Agenda
Junyao He’s research examines how digitalisation, changing work arrangements, and emerging technologies restructure spatial relations. Complex networks and complex systems provide the common analytical core. Cities, regions, labour markets, migration systems, digital platforms, and governance processes are treated as relational systems whose structure, dynamics, and inequalities evolve over time.
Urban and economic geography
This strand studies how remote and hybrid work, technological transitions, and changing firm and labour market relations reshape urban systems, regional opportunity, and uneven development.
Mobility and migration
This strand focuses on job home networks, residential relocation, interregional migration, and digitally enabled mobility. Key questions concern access to spatial flexibility, the geography of attraction and loss, and the distributional effects of new mobility systems.
Urban planning and governance
This strand examines digital participation, social media, planning controversies, networked power, and the institutionalisation of AI in urban governance.
Computational social science
Across these empirical fields, Junyao He combines network analysis, spatial econometrics, causal inference, agent based modelling, spatial microsimulation, large scale text analysis, and interpretable machine learning.
